ooooo, I love "Sleep to Dream" and "I Can't Make You Love Me." Great songs.
Okay, for super sappy, there's Michael McDonald's "I Can Let Go Now." But the one that gets me crying every time is "The Scientist" by Coldplay.
I have a playlist in my itunes called "Melancholy Mix", just for sad days. Helps me move through things more easily. Another song I really love is Billy Bragg's "St. Swithin's Day":
Thinking back now,
I suppose you were just stating your views
What was it all for
For the weather or the battle of agincourt
And the times that we all hoped would last
Like a train they have gone by so fast
And though we stood together
At the edge of the platform
We were not moved by them
With my own hands
When I make love to your memory
It's not the same
I miss the thunder
I miss the rain
And the fact that you don't understand
Casts a shadow over this land
But the sun still shines from behind it.
Thanks all the same
But i just can't bring myself to answer your letters
It's not your fault
But your honesty touches me like a fire
The polaroids that hold us together
Will surely fade away
Like the love that we spoke of forever
On st swithin's day

"tallpenguin, I am curious how this book (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) impacted you. If you wouldn't mind."
As a kid I didn't read much fiction. I was too much in the real world with its real world problems. But I did read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. And I loved it. It was fantastical but still I could relate to the main character and his dreams. Gave me hope that, in the end, maybe the good, quiet kids do get noticed and rewarded.
It has been my favourite book since then and I read it once a year to remind myself of being a child, and not to take life too seriously. I have since read most of Roald Dahl's other stuff and am actually just re-reading The BFG right now. I like Dahl's crazy sense of humour. It was my dream as a kid to meet him. Alas he died in 1990 and I didn't get to, but I can imagine that he would've been pretty cool.

The resurrection of dead pets
by greendawn inwould it be nice if pets also got resurrected to live with their owners once more?
we can try teaching them all the biblical truths but of course they will not understand anything.
however their faithful christian owners may want to see them again.

I know a brother who is convinced his pet dog will be resurrected in the "new system". He backs this up by saying, "The scriptures say that jehovah will satisfy the desire of every living thing; well I don't want to live forever without my dog so he'll have to resurrect him." I sometimes wonder if it's the only thing that keeps him going. He loved that dog.

Illnesses in The Congregations
by Country Girl indid any of you ever notice that what seemed a larger percentage of people in the congregation seem to have serious illnesses than the same slice of people in the world with the same demographics?
it seems that our congregation had a large percentage of people with mental illnesses, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, etc.
these diseases (although some md's classify them as psychosomatic) have been known to be aggravated or even induced by stress.

Just did some research on CFS and personality type. Found the following:
"The role of personality in the development and perpetuation of chronic fatigue syndrome.
White C, Schweitzer R.
Department of Psychology and Counselling, Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia.
OBJECTIVES: Qualitative evidence suggests that personality may have special relevance to the predisposition, precipitation and perpetuation of chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). This study compares three dimensions of personality - perfectionism, self-esteem, and emotional control in the personality profiles of CFS patients (N=44) and a control group (N=44) without a history of CFS, matched for age and gender.
METHODS: Participants were assessed on the MPS [Frost RO, Marten P, Lahart C, Rosenblate R. The dimensions of perfectionism. Cognit Ther Res 1990;14:449-468.]; the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale [Rosenberg M. Society and the Adolescent Self-image. Princeton, NJ: Princeton Univ Press, 1965.]; the Courtauld Emotional Scale [Watson M, Greer S. Development of a questionnaire measure of emotional control. J Psychosom Res 1983;27:299-305.] and the Marlowe-Crowne Social Desirability Scale [Crowne DP, Marlowe D. A new scale of social desirability independent of psychopathology. J Consult Psychol 1960;24:349-354.].
RESULTS: Analyses revealed that the CFS group reported higher levels than the control group on the Total Perfectionism score and Doubts about Actions and the Concern over Mistakes subscales. Furthermore, the CFS group also reported lower self-esteem than the control group. No difference between the two groups was found on the dimensions of emotional control and social desirability response bias.
CONCLUSION: A developmental model of CFS, which considers the predisposing, precipitating, and perpetuating factors that may account for the course of the disorder irrespective of etiology, is proposed. In the context of the results, recommendations for practice and future research are discussed."
